Kraft or Art-Card Paper Bags for a Malaysian Event?
Choose an event paper bag around the actual kit: kraft or art card, usable size, handles, print finish, loaded sample and delivered quote.
The short answer: choose kraft when its natural paper appearance suits the event and a tested bag safely carries the kit; choose art card when the chosen stock and approved print finish give the more structured presentation you need. Neither material name guarantees strength, better printing or an environmental benefit. Measure the real contents and approve a filled, finished sample before the Malaysian bulk order.
This is a paper carrier for a delegate kit or gift, not a replacement for the canvas-versus-non-woven tote decision. If guests are expected to keep and reuse a bag, compare those alternatives separately. If the bag only needs to carry documents from registration to a seat, its size, opening and handles may matter more than decorative finishing.
Compare the exact constructions, not just two paper names
| Decision | Kraft paper bag | Art-card paper bag |
|---|---|---|
| Visual direction | Brown or white paper surface; check print contrast on the actual stock | Smoother, more rigid card surface; check the selected print and finish |
| Carrying job | Test base, gusset, handle fixing and full load | Test base, gusset, handle fixing and full load |
| Quote | Specify stock weight, handle, dimensions and decoration | Specify stock weight, handle, dimensions and decoration |
Etech Packaging’s current Malaysian range distinguishes kraft paper, art paper and thicker art card and lists flat paper, rope and ribbon handle choices. DRB Printing’s paper-bag specification likewise lists kraft and several art-card weights with separate finish options. These are supplier examples, not universal combinations or BajuPrintz inventory. “Art paper” and “art card” are not interchangeable labels: ask the supplier to name the exact stock and weight it will use.
Do not assume kraft is automatically recyclable or art card automatically unsuitable for recycling. Handles, lamination, inks and local collection rules can change the outcome. If an environmental claim matters to the event, request evidence for the finished bag, not just its paper name.
Fill the sample with the real event kit
Lay out the actual A4 presentation folder, booklet, pen, bottle or boxed gift. Measure the widest and thickest item and the total loaded weight. Compare those with the bag’s usable internal width, height, gusset and opening; a nominal outside size can hide space lost to folds and handles.
Ask for a finished sample with the proposed stock, base reinforcement, handle and print. Put the whole kit inside, lift it by the handles and carry it as a guest would. Check that the base does not sag, the handles do not pull through, corners do not crush the folder, and the bag stays comfortable to hold. Record the accepted model and contents. A flat digital proof cannot establish carrying capacity.
Place the artwork on the supplier’s dieline. Keep essential text and logos away from fold, glue, handle holes and trim; approve colour and contrast on the actual paper and finish. The artwork-file guide helps you prepare a clean logo, but the bag maker must approve its own print-ready file.
Request a delivered price and dated production plan
Send the event postcode and in-hand date, quantity per design, chosen material and weight, finished dimensions, handle type, reinforcement, print sides, colour, lamination or other finish, packing and assembly requirements. Ask each supplier to separate bag production, setup, proof/sample, finishing, tax and freight. Minimum quantities and lead times vary by supplier and model; do not copy a website’s general figure into your event schedule. Use the event merchandise pre-order guide to set the quantity deliberately.
If bags accompany event apparel, list them as a separate item in your BajuPrintz quotation request and confirm which supplier can make the chosen construction. Approve the filled sample and complete delivered quote before committing the full order.
Frequently asked questions
Is kraft paper always stronger than art card for an event bag?
No. Carrying performance depends on the exact stock weight, bag size, base, folds, handle attachment and load. Fill and carry a finished sample with the real event kit before approving either material.
Does an art-card bag always need lamination?
No. Lamination is a separate finish, not part of the material name. Ask whether it is offered for the chosen model and approve a printed sample for colour, scuffing and fold appearance.
Can a paper bag safely hold an A4 event folder?
Only if the finished bag's usable opening, internal dimensions, gusset and base fit the actual filled folder. An A4 label or a flat mock-up does not prove the whole kit will fit or carry well.
What should a printed paper-bag quotation include?
Specify the exact stock and weight, finished internal dimensions, gusset, handle and reinforcement, artwork and print sides, finish, quantity per design, proof, packing, delivery postcode and in-hand date. Ask for setup, tax and freight to be itemised.
