Silk Screen Printing Malaysia: A Buyer Guide for Bulk Shirt Orders

Silk screen remains a dependable choice for event shirts, school programmes, uniforms and merchandise. Ink is pushed through a prepared mesh screen onto the fabric. Each print colour normally needs its own screen.

That setup takes time, but the same screens can produce many shirts quickly and consistently. This is why silk screen often makes sense for larger quantities with a limited number of colours.

Orders that suit silk screen

Consider silk screen when you have:

• One design repeated across many shirts
• One to four solid print colours
• A firm quantity and size list
• Cotton, microfiber or another fabric already tested by the printer
• A need for strong colour coverage and good wash durability

For a small full-colour run, DTF printing may avoid the cost of preparing several screens.

What changes the price

Quantity is only one factor. Factories also price the number of colours, print positions, shirt type, ink coverage and finishing work. A one-colour chest logo is simpler than a four-colour front and back design.

Ask whether the quotation includes shirts, screen setup, printing, packing, tax and delivery. Comparing only the lowest unit price can hide setup or transport charges.

How to check a sample

Review the first sample or production proof before approving the full run. Check:

1. Print position and distance from the collar
2. Finished width and height
3. Colour against the approved reference
4. Registration between different colours
5. Ink coverage on dark fabric
6. Stretching or cracking when the fabric is gently pulled

Small variations are normal in a manual process, but the design should remain aligned and readable throughout the batch.

Prepare a cleaner quote brief

Send a vector artwork file where possible. Include the shirt colour, material, quantity by size, print dimensions and required date. If shirts have already been purchased, tell the printer the fabric composition and provide a spare piece for testing.
