Paper, Cork or PVC Coasters for a Malaysian Event?

Choose printed event coasters by drink, table use, artwork and handover; compare paperboard, cork and PVC with a real sample and delivered quote.

Three plain round coasters made from off-white paperboard, tan cork and dark-teal soft PVC on a tabletop

The short answer: choose an absorbent paperboard coaster if it is mainly for drinks served at one event; consider cork when its natural surface fits a take-home set; consider PVC when the selected washable model fits repeated use. These are starting points, not guarantees. Ask for the exact construction and test a finished printed sample with the real cup, drink and table before a Malaysian bulk order.

A coaster has a different job from a ceramic or enamel mug: it must fit under the cup base, stay reasonably flat and protect the surface during service. Decide whether each guest receives one at a table, as part of a gift set or as a take-home item before choosing the material.

GiftMarket’s current Malaysian coaster range distinguishes pulpboard paper from laminated paper with an EVA-foam base, and also lists cork and soft PVC. Printcious lists cork coasters and a PVC coaster product, but its PVC listing also describes a rubber material. Treat those pages as supplier examples, not a universal material specification. Ask the bidder to confirm what the quoted coaster is actually made of.

Test the real drink and artwork together

Put the event’s cup or glass on each sample. Check that its base sits fully inside the coaster, the coaster does not slide on the actual table, and condensation or a small spill behaves acceptably. Leave the drink in place for a realistic service interval, then look for softening, curling, staining or a transferred print. For a take-home set, ask how recipients should clean and store it.

Keep essential lettering away from the cut edge and ask for a proof at finished size. A logo that reads well on a screen may be too small on a coaster. The artwork-file guide covers a clean handoff, but the coaster supplier must approve its own print area and production file.

Do not claim that any coaster is recyclable, biodegradable or “eco-friendly” from its material name alone. Lamination, adhesive, ink and mixed layers may change disposal options. If an environmental claim matters, request evidence for the finished item and the intended local collection route.

Quote the complete table or gift-set plan

Send the number of tables or recipients, quantity per design, exact construction, dimensions, thickness, printing, individual packing or set assembly, delivery postcode and the date items must be in hand. Ask for proof/sample, setup, tax and freight as separate lines. For a venue in Sabah or Sarawak, request the actual delivered quotation. Include coasters in the event merchandise quantity plan so the count matches the handover.

If coasters accompany mugs or apparel, list them as a separate item in a BajuPrintz quote request and confirm which supplier can make the approved construction. Place the order only after the sample and full delivered quote match the event brief.

Frequently asked questions

Which coaster should I choose for drinks served during one event?

Start with a sample tested under the actual cold or hot drink on the event table. An absorbent paperboard model may suit table service, while cork or PVC may suit a take-home item; construction and finish still need checking.

Are all paper coasters absorbent?

No. Pulpboard, laminated paper and paper bonded to another base behave differently. Ask for the exact stock and test condensation, print rub and table contact on a finished sample.

Is a cork coaster automatically the greener option?

No. Coatings, adhesive, backing, printing and local collection routes affect the finished item. Request evidence for any environmental claim rather than relying on the word cork.

What should a printed-coaster quotation include?

Specify the exact material and construction, size, shape, thickness, print method and sides, quantity per design, proof, packing, delivery postcode and in-hand date; ask for setup, tax and freight to be itemised.
