Die-Cut or Kiss-Cut Stickers for a Malaysian Event?

Choose die-cut or kiss-cut event stickers by how guests receive and peel them. Check the backing, material, cut line, packing and delivered quote.

The short answer: choose die-cut when each event sticker should arrive as a separate piece trimmed to its outline. Choose kiss-cut when you want the design cut for peeling but a larger backing left around it, or several designs held on one sheet. Neither cut style tells you whether the sticker will resist water or remove cleanly; those depend on the selected material, adhesive and finish.

For a Malaysian conference, school activity or merchandise pack, decide first how people will receive and use the sticker. A loose die-cut giveaway is different from a kiss-cut sheet tucked inside a presentation folder. Ask to see the final supplied format, not only an enlarged artwork mock-up.

What is cut?Sticker and backing are cut to the outer shape.Sticker layer is cut; surrounding backing stays intact.
What is handed out?Usually a separate shaped piece.Could be one design on a larger backing or several on a sheet; specify it.
What should you proof?Finished outline and peel edge.Inner cut line, backing margin and spacing between designs.

StickerApp’s product guide explains the cutting distinction. For a local production example, PrintLab lists a Malaysian multiple-design sticker-sheet service with kiss cutting and asks for artwork and cutting-line files. These describe those services, not every printer’s stock or BajuPrintz capability. A kiss-cut order is not automatically a multi-design sheet, and a die-cut order is not automatically individually packed.

Specify the sticker separately from its cut

Tell the printer where the sticker will go: a paper folder, laptop, bottle, window or giveaway card. Ask which exact material and adhesive suits that surface and whether the proposed finish is appropriate for indoor handling, moisture or outdoor exposure. A glossy paper sticker and a synthetic film can behave differently even when both are kiss-cut. Test application and removal on the actual surface, especially if residue or damage would matter.

Give the finished sticker dimensions, shape, quantity per artwork, number of designs, cut style, backing or sheet dimensions and packing unit. For kiss-cut sheets, specify how many sheets and how many stickers per sheet; “500 stickers” and “500 sheets” are different orders. If distribution is one per participant, state whether a helper must separate or pack them. Use the event merchandise pre-order guide to set a deliberate quantity.

Keep small lettering and important artwork away from the cut line. Request the printer’s own template, bleed and safe-area rules; the artwork-file guide helps you prepare clean source files, but it does not replace the sticker supplier’s cut-line proof. Approve a physical sample at actual size: peel it, apply it, inspect edge alignment and check whether sheets separate or stack as planned.

Ask for a delivered quotation that separates print, cutting or setup, material and finish, proof/sample, packing, tax and freight to your postcode. Include the date the stickers must be in hand, not just the event date. If stickers accompany event shirts, list them separately in your BajuPrintz quotation request and confirm which supplier can make the exact format before you approve it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between die-cut and kiss-cut stickers?

A die-cut sticker is cut through the printed sticker and its backing into one finished shape. A kiss-cut sticker is cut through the sticker layer while the backing remains intact around it; confirm the supplier's finished format in the proof.

Are kiss-cut stickers always supplied on large sheets?

No. Kiss-cut describes the depth of the cut, not a single packing format. A supplier may supply one design on a larger backing or several designs on a sheet, so specify the number of stickers and sheets you need.

Does die-cut mean the sticker is waterproof?

No. Cut style does not determine water resistance. Ask for the exact face material, adhesive and protective finish, then test a finished sample on the intended surface and in its expected conditions.

What artwork should I send for custom-shaped stickers?

Send the final artwork and a clear cut line in the format requested by the chosen printer. Confirm finished sticker size, backing size, bleed and safe area on its proof before approving production.
